Arsenal kept up their pursuit of Manchester United with a hard-fought victory over Blackburn. Rovers came to make things difficult for the Champions and certainly succeeded in that aim. The Gunners were limited to long-range efforts invariably fired straight at the excellent John Filan. However, the side's were separated by a moment of Bergkamp magic and the solitary goal was only just enough to secure the points. The visitors poured forward in search of the equaliser after Keown was sent off with a little over 20 mins remaining, but their man advantage was lost when Gillespie went the same way 14 minutes later
