Sunday January 31
- FA Carling Premiership Attendance: 38,121
Arsenal (1) 1 - Chelsea (0) 0
Arsenal inflicted Chelsea's second defeat of the season and their first in 22 games as The Gunners closed in on the Championship race. Fit-again David Seaman was untested for the entire first half, but Chelsea came out with a sense of urgency after the interval and put Arsene Wenger's men under pressure. Dennis Bergkamp's genius proved the difference between two overly-committed sides
GOALS
1-0 Arsenal 32 mins Bergkamp Overmars competed with Petrescu in an aerial challenge from Petit's long pass, and the ball fell into the path of the Dutch striker, who coolly slotted the ball into the right-hand corner beyond the reach of the on-rushing de Goey, with a magnificent 13-yard right-footed finish
