Derby County will see this as a point well won, but Coventry will mark it down as two thrown away. Coventry produced some magnificent football to lead 1-0 at half-time with a 16th minute goal from Noel Whelan. Gary McAllister charged down Carbonari's clearance and the ball ran to Steve Froggatt whose shot was parried by goalkeeper Mart Poom into Whelan's path and the striker had a simple tap in. But the game swung round in the second half and Derby drew level in the 50th minute when Coventry failed to clear the ball in their own penalty area and it fell to Lee Carsley who pivoted to tuck a low shot into the corner
