Derby (1) 2 - Middlesbrough (0) 1
Derby notched their first home win since September 19th in a bad tempered match which was prefaced by Ram's fans booing Sturridge following recent press speculation about his future. The striker won the crowd over by scoring his fifth goal of the seasson and setting up a winner for Jonathan Hunt just as Middlesbrough seemed to have claimed a point. It was Hunt's first goal this season for Derby following loan spells at Sheffield United and Ipswich. Bryan Robson made a dramatic double substitution on 42 minutes in a bid to win back control of a one-sided midfield battle but just two minutes later the pattern of the game change when Paulo Wanchope was dismissed for landing a right hook on Andy Townsend after the Boro skipper had caught him with a clumsy challenge. The visitor's laid siege to the Derby half after the breakthough without really testing Mart Poom although substitute Mikkel Beck scored his fourth of the season - which seemed certain to guarantee a share of the spoils until the Sturridge-inspired finale
GOALS
1-0 Derby 29 mins Sturridge Gascoigne's poor pass allowed Bohinen to rob Townsend of possession. He fed Sturridge who played a one-two with Wanchope before bursting into the box and lifting the ball over Schwarzer
1-1 Middlesbrough 77 mins Beck Powell lost possession on the edge of the Boro box allowing Fleming to pick out Gordon with a pinpoint 50 yard pass. The full-back swung in a dangerous cross and Beck, unmarked six yards out, planted his header past Poom
2-1 Derby 85 mins Hunt Sturridge picked up the ball on the right and crossed into the box where Powell headed down into the path of Hunt who dispatched a low half-volley past Schwarzer from ten yards
