Chelsea moved back to the summit of the Premier League, temporarily atleast, with an easy victory over Southampton. Gianfranco Zola tormented the Saints defence throughout the and had a hand in both his sides goals. Zola's perfect cross allowed Flo to fire Chelsea into the lead and Poyet sealed victory shortly after half-time with an easy second. Saints' closest effort came late on, when Egil Ostenstad hit the crossbar with a close range header
