Club Show 1998
Tuomari / Judge Maureen Savage , GB

Yli 120 setteriä viidestä eri maasta kokoontui kilpailemaan Krapihoviin Tuusulaan Maailman Voittaja-näyttelyä seuranneena päivänä. Moni osallistujista oli edellisenä päivänä jo koettanut onneaan Messukeskuksessa ja jatkoi näin tiivistä kilpailuviikonloppua. Punaiset irlanninsetterit tämän vuoden Club Showssamme arvosteli Maureen Savage Iso-Britanniasta.

 Maureen Savagen tuomaripalaute

I was really thrilled and felt very honoured to be invited to judge the 2nd Club Show. Having been to The World Dog Show day before I wondered what awaited me as I presumed some of the exhibitors would be at both shows.

When I woke up it was raining so hard I had to rethink my wardrobe. White trousers I thought would not be a good idea. Walking boots, vax jacket and hat was plan "B".

I had bought over some rosettes donated by myself for the class winners, Best Puppy, Veteran and Resev BOB. The Midlands Irish Setter Society had donated a BIS rosette and The Irish Setter Society had donated a BIS rosette and The Irish Setter Breeders Club a rosette for Best Dog and Bitch. Birdbrook a company who made the rosettes I donated and the BIS rosette kindly donated a Best od Breed rosette for all 4 breeds.

At 9.30 I went to the showground in pouring rain to give rosettes to the organising commitee. It didn't look a pretty site as the ground was soggy and getting the rings etc. ready for the show was a bit daunting as to who wanted come in such awful weather.

However I joined one of the other judges Julia Bateman in the hotel room at 10.30 am and we thought it was begining to stop raining. Plan "A" came into action back to the white trousers and blazer. From then on things got better and better.
The show was opened by Karo Aarnio-Wihuri who introduced the 4 judges individually. With super entry of just over 70 Irish Setters to judge i knew I was in for a long day with having to give an assessment on every dog/ bitch.

I was very pleased that quality in most of the classes was sufficient for me to find what I was looking for. The best puppy who eventually was Best in Show shows a lot of promise. The junior bitch impressed me a lot and would like to see her again in 1-2 years.

A pity the best vetran could not stay for best Veteran BIS Show as although he was only a young vetran (7 1/2 years) he showed how lasting our breed are and can compete with the younger ones for Best Dog/ Bitch.

I thought when I had chosen my best dog and bitch my dog would be BOB but when they stood side by side the bitch typified my idea of an Irish Setter racy and elegant. The dog I felt looked a little heavy and maybe a little less coat underneath would make him look better. When I saw them go around the ring there was no hestitate in making the bitch BOB her forward movement ground covering and style made the decision easy.

Deciding puppy, brace, progeny, veteran and BIS was no easy task as all four judges were asked to decide which was the best. Fortunately we all agreed on the same dog which was fortunate for all concerned.

We all went over the respective members and made our desicions having moved the dogs individually then together. Obviously I was delighted when the Irish Setter Bitch was the unanimous desision for Best In Show. She went around the ring showing great style and presence. A shame the rain came again just we were judging BIS. Otherwise the weather turned out to be good but at times too hot. Typical I'm told of Finnish weather.

I would like to thank my hard working stewards, especially Kristiina for writing the assesment her English was excellent I hope her hands were OK the next day. The commitee for the hard work in organising the show and the BBQ held at Karo's home (English Setter owners only) the evening before the World Dog Show.

And last of all the exhibitors for the lovely entry I hope you took the assesments on your dogs to be constructive and helpful.

Thank You, Maureen Savage
