I would start by trying to do title search in California and work your way backwards to former owners. It workers for my 1967 Pontiac. Not sure if california will do totle searches or not. I wrote each state a letter with VIN and apid about $10 per sate for a title search. Eventually caleed original dealership which happened to be friend of original owner which then gave me phone number to original owner.

i have a 1985 el dorado biarritz which is almost complete. it still needs a fuel pump, front seat covers, and a paint job. this car is a steal at $400. i have already installed the replacement (plastic) body fillers. el dorado lovers, dont miss this one. i am moving soon and the car has to go. i am in miami. 786-217-7054 raul. the car has 123,000 original miles. does not burn oil and the cooling system is as clean as they come. new battery and many extra parts.

This car has been taken apart, it is very complete. some one wanted to restore the car so the broke the car down all the way to the chasis. I has some rust on the rear floor pans on both sides. other then that there is no more rust in the rest of the car. it is an nice project for the person who can build a great street rod. damn. ishman

i have a 1985 el dorado biarritz in miami which i have been restoring. i am moving and cannot take it with me. there are a few plastic body parts that still need to be installed (i have them). a small dent in the front left fender (very repairable). it needs a new fuel pump (car sat for 1 year and the fuel is not getting through. the front seat needs new covers. and then it can be painted. the car ran great when i parked it. it has a new cooling system including the radiator and a new battery. EVERYTHING WORKS including the air conditioner. this car has the stainless steel and leather top. it is brown with a beige and brown interior. write me for any other details.

Ok,i am no Caddy expert by any stretch...did i say that? anyway,while down at a guys house today,i happened to see an old Caddy ambulance amongst the weeds in his back yard..."he may be a redneck"..turns out it is an old (think he said 1950) Cadillac ambulance still with the red cross symbol on back..he said it ran fine when he parked it many years ago,and only had 15k original miles..I am going to talk him into letting me sell it for him,and wanted to let everyone who cares know...he also has antique vehicles of every type including steel wheel farm tractors from twenties etc...i just sold a p-51 fighter engine for him...anyone interested email me,ok?Thanks!

i have a 1961 caddy converible and have tried to find info off the serial numbers on the car such as color codes the code on the car says number 14, also trim and acc.codes. i have tried everywhere and cant find them. the car has bucket seats and a vent on the floor, i was told they made very little of these cars. its a deville with buckets and was told that was an option instead of the normal bench seats.the car is awsome but like to find out more.i have worked on it for awhile and she runs strong almost like i was in the sixties. with great thanks brad miami53@aol.com

I remember it as a 1952 cadillac electra convertable (might not have been though) and internet search does not align "electra" with "Cadillac" I do remember it was original colors, 1952, had 12(?) - position electric front seats, and the color was a light pastel mint green (like the mints you eat - not the plant leaves).

Your 53 looks to be in reasonably good shape. My brother and myself restored one approx. 2 years ago. Same colour scheme as yours. This car was purchased new in Winnipeg. My brother then continued on and just recently finished a 2nd. one. We have one unrestored 53 Eldo left at the farm. It is a complete car but it is in very poor condition. We do have parts.

Gentlemen/Ladies, does anybody know the name of the company that did convertable conversions on LaSalles from the 30s? I have a friend who has one but he knows nothing about it. I know the convertable conversion was done by an aftermarket company Cadillac/LaSalle used but I can 't find the name. Can anybody help? Thanks. PS, the conversion is on a sedan, not a coupe.

New Stainless steel exhaust, wiring, top, carburattor, fuel pumps, etc, all purchased from Caddy Parts (USA), a value over US $6.500.00. Body is absoluty rust free and treated against corrosion (last May) and painted in Mhite. Top is new and in Tan. All chromes are in top condition. An old friend of mine who had a 1957 (I think) threw a rod, and eventually lost it. I could have just died!!!! as you can bet!! I work at a Mortuary in San Leandro,California as a Mortician and we have a 1970 Cadilac Hearse with Hydrolic side lifts for loading the casket on either side. It really is beautiful and very clean, and recieves MANY looks from the older to the young teenagers while in Funeral Percession. My bosses are very proud of her. 1 1/2 months ago my 1991 cadillac eldorado baritze was totaled. We bought it for about 8,000 1yr ago, with about 52000 miles on it. It was in complete perfect condition.MINT CONDITION. Even the original leather seats were soft and not worn out at all. The insurance company is trying to pay us nearly nothing for it since it was an old car.

I have a decent 85 eldo convertible for sale. It does have some rust but most of it is surface rust on the left side. It is white with red interior. Carpets dash and headliner are all good, but the seats are losing some of their stitching (does anybody have an old coupe parts car with nive red seats??) It runs real good and I would drive it anywhere. Good tiresm brakes, engine and exhaust. It also has the superfly ;) grille and continental tire kit. She's a good old car that couls use body restoration and paint, or run it like she is. $3,850.

I work in a hard rock quarry, I was excavating the back wall of the quarry, when I dug a car out of the side of the mountain, (obviously somebody buried a car a few decades back) it was just a frame, a motor and a grille, I was very intrigued, took the stamp numbers off the block, did some reserch, there it was a 53 Caddy, a shame to find in a quarry wall in such bad shape, but still a golden find for me
I looked on the Elvis Caddy web site and only a black and white photo is there. When I was 16 i was sitting in the "City Cafe" in Minden NEBRASKA. Three men who resembled Elvis, Scotty and Bill walked in. My mother waited on them. They left in the Yellow Caddy Eldorado Convertable. I forgot about it for 47 years because everyone told me that Elvis only had Pink Caddys. On the elvis web-site I found out he bought yellow on Sept 6 1955 and it was a 54. Then I set out to prove they were in the area that hot summer day so long ago. A web site manger for Scotty the guitarist told me that he read in "Elvis Day By Day" that he had been in Lincoln, Omaha and Sioux City. I found there was a two day layover in the area about 2-3 hours from Minden. May 21 and 22nd I found out were a Monday and a Tuesday. I found out throught the weather archives that it was in the upper 80s on those days. /And I figured out if at been much later in the summer my chances of even being in the cafe were slimmer since I spent all my time at the swimming pool at that age. Afew months after the sighting I became a rockabilly singer on "Midwest Jamboree" kHOL TV. This lasted for 3 years. My mother passed away in 2001 and I sang a Elvis song "Peace IN The Valley" at her funeral as requested. So the cafe and the car have a p[lace of interest in my heart. No one seems to know what happened to the car. Elvis gave Sam Phillips son of SUN records a yellow caddy but I believe it was a different one. I love big cars and am intriqued by your restoration project. I hope things are moving right along and you haven't given up on it. I drove a HUGE 1984 Caddy until finally giving it to my son to restore and buying a perfect-condition 1992 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon in white with "woody" sides and blue leather upholstry. It's a gorgious land yacht and can stand it's own against SUVs. Good luck with your project. My next vehicle purchase, I hope, will be the NEW 2004 Studebaker XUV. Yes, I said Studebaker! Im searching for a 1976 caddy eldorado covertible plastic model kit. From what i understand only one company makes this kit. JO-HAN. Only problem is they havent made that kit in a long time. So here I am hoping that one of my fellow caddy lovers out there has some info for me where to get one. Id prefer the kit not built, But will settle for a built kit, as long as its all there. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Nice looking '53, even unrestored. I have a 1972 Coupe de Ville, a 1975 Eldorado convertible, and a 1988 STS. I was originally trying to have cars from different decades but gave that up. (Used to have a '61 CDV and an '84 Biarritz.)

Just bought the '78 Sedan Deville with 229,000 on the odometer. Just about everything under the hood's been replaced, so it runs like a dream. Great ride, only no oomph going up hills. I'm planning to sink several grand into refurbishing the exterior (the interior is pristine), including restoring its paint job to the original specs. If I live long enough, I might end up owning a classic. Biggest problem with it is trying to find a parking space big enough for the whole car to fit into.
My Favorite Cadillac is the 1953 Eldorado Convertible. so I supose it was just a matter of time until I found your site. I`ve restored many fine cars, But no 53 Cady`s. so I`m still looking for mine. There`s a guy who lives a couple miles down the road from me who seems to be trying to buy every old Cadillac on the east coast. trying to find them before he does is a chore. Recently purchased 2002 Cadillac Eldorado Collector Series. It is Aztec Red and has 300 HP engine. Cadillac is discontinuing the Eldorado after this year. 532 Aztec red and 1064 Alpine white cars were made for the collector series. However, as far as I know, none are convertibles, but never the less, is intended to be the 50 year anniversary edition of the Eldorado. Came across your site while researchiong the "original" Eldorado. Good luck on your restoration.

I love my car! - A special order metallic navy blue with gold wheels, and every other frill available. Now has 186,000 miles on it. It gets spectacular care and should have no problem getting at least 300,000 miles out of it. That's my plan, because I would have a hard time parting with it.

I have an Eldorado, 1983, Burgundy with white leather interior and a light tan top which looks exactly like a convertible. I would think it would have a name for this particular model, it's not Biarritz. Anyhoo it sits in my drive-way for now and it's what I think a car should look like and feel the same way about a Toronado etc. don't care much for the new jely-bean shaped cars. I would appreciate hearing from any-one familiar with this model. The car needs exhaust work which I will probably have done, and get it back on the road. Could be persuaded to sell for a reasonable offer. Tom.

I believe the '53 is about the most beautiful year ever. I have a '47 that I bought in l959. I put on a new top, tires, insides about l2 yrs. ago and I'm rechroming the bumpers now. Too many family memories to ever sell it so I'll eventually pass it on to my kids someday. I've taken it to some shows and it gets attention even though it is a long way from being a showcar. After sitting for about 30 yrs. all it needed to run were new plug wires and 2 qts. trans. fluid. Years ago I was pushing a '55 Olds and a '48 Chevy couldn't pass me. I had lots of fun with it in my earlier days.

Looking down i see that people are telling what they have. We have a '59 Eldorado Biarritz. It is Seminole red with white leather/white roof. All the chrome is original and it looks the nuts !! All the electrics still work perfect and it stops Americans everywhere when we drive through the West End of London. These Eldo's rocked in the 50's, and they still rock now!

I have a 1984 Elderado Convertable for sale. It is located in Franklin, NH. It is presently having body work completed, and will be in excellent physical shape. It has 3000 miles on a rebuilt motor. The interior is tan, and in good shape, with no dash cracks or leather cuts.

im a 14.5 male and i just love cadillacs it started about 2 years ago when my dad was 63 purchased a very ugly pale brown 1967 cadillac coupe de ville it did not run or anything the a few months later he stsrted working on it and he got new interior fixed the engine cleaned it up and repaired the orignal radio and in about 6 months of time he was done with it and that thing went fast well when he was done with it looked brand new and when he had finally taken me in a drive in it i began to love that car and also love cadillacs i wish that my dad was still here but about 7.5 months ago he was going to the store and hours went by but he never came back and then we all thought ah well he's going to come home when were all asleep and surprise us with something because that was my dad so we all went to bed and I woke up to the phone ringing about 3 hours later and it was the police dept. they had said that a man by the name of Edward ****** was struck by a desil and died on impact so the car as well as my dad is now gone. so if you can please help me find a 1967 coupe de ville in great condidion i will apprecheate it i now love cadillacs in memory of my dad....

I am 17 years old I am in need of a 1964 Elderado Conv. I live in Langley, B.C Canada and have yet to find one. I am looking for one in driveable condition, a winter project that with lots of TLC will come together to make a great cruiser. I have been in love with Cadillacs since my father bought me a 1953 Elderado Conv, di-cast model which is now my most prised possesion. If anybody could help me in attaining my dream car it would be great. I have always wanted to own a peice of all american luxury. To me Cadillacs are the best and I would not want any other car the a cadillac. My friends make fun of me when they are talking abouth the Lamborghinis and the Royces they will own and I tell them I want a Cadillac. I love the site (except for the under construction part of it) I have a 1987 Coupe Deville. It's dark blue and has had a new paint job. I've sunken about 2,500 dollars into it for repairs (such as water-pump failure and alternator freezing) It's not completely original though. I have new American racing rims on it because the old rims rusted out, due to the Florida salty air it was subjected to before I bought it. The sound system is also completely changed (I won't go there) But, it is not for sale, so nobody get any ideas, I'm just showing it off.

I recently acquired this great ole' white on white caddy and having not one for a few years was questioning the fuel mileage. I get about 12-12.5 MPG is this about right for this car?
I have replaced all the igintion/tune-up parts but have not touched the carb. Still have a slight miss at idle.

My husband recently died, he rebuilt the 53 cad engine, and the seats are re-upholsted. Other than that, the car is totally orginal. Black with green int., I don't know how much the car is worth. I need the money, being newly widowed, and a single income. How do I find out how much to sell the cadi for? I know the cadi is a sedan, and think it's a 62 series, and deville? not sure

First I'd like to congratulate you for picking one of the finest post-war American cars available. It cost big bucks in '53, but every dollar was well spent, by the original owners as well as by the successive owners of many surviving cars.
Next, I'd like to invite you and your guests to help me to keep up-to-date the section of "The (new) Cadillac Database" where I hope to list one day all the surviving cars. If you take a look at the section devoted to the Eldorado Brougham, you will see that when I take on a project, I mean business! Lastly, and just for information, I attended the annual Cadillac-LaSalle Club Grand National meet at Santa Clara, CA, in 1999; there I saw eight, yes EIGHT, '53 Eldos all lined up together. I have a '53 Cadillac convertible, light green body with dark green convertible top, green and white leather interior. I purchased the car from the original owner in Bel Air, California, in 1964 For many years, I used it as a daily driver; then, I purchased a '67 Cadillac Convertible (red body, white top, red interior) which became my driver. I still drive the '67 occasionally: This week from Palm Springs to Los Angeles. For many years, the '53 has been in storage more than in use. It is still in beautiful condition and drives perfectly. I also have a 1941 Cadillac Convertible (black body, white top, red interior) which is also in storage.

I love your car dude. I am a 22 year old from Portland, Oregon. I have always been interested in 40s and 50s cadillacs, especially the 53 eldorado. I searched for three and a half years in the newspapers, internet and everywhere else trying to find a 53 Cadillac to restore. I finally found a 53 sedan for $500! I picked it up, and it now sits in my garage. The guy who sold it to me also has a 1953 sedan that has been converted into a pickup truck. I picked it upo for $1000. I am not sure if I should use it for parts, or restore it too. It is pretty kool looking. I guess I am still looking for a 53 cadillac for parts.....

It was purchased from an uncle in Detroit who was the original owner. Like your, it was alpine white with red interior. I have a '59 Series 62 , 4 dr, 6 window bullet tail lights & all. I've been wanting this car for about 15 years.Guess what, I finally got it! I've been trying to but it from my uncle, but he wouldn't sell. He gave it to me! The hood has bad rust but the rest is ok. I just have to rebuild the motor. Good Luck on your project!!! See Ya!
greetings from arkansas, USA! found your site while searching for info on 1955 cadillacs. i have a 62 series coupe w/35000 actual miles! the car is complete,runs good,but needs cosmetics,paint and interior are intact-just old. i have a set of sabre spoke wheels(optional in 1955) that i have put on the car along w/new WWW tires. i have known of this car for about 25yrs! finally got it. congrats on your 53 eldorado.i would love to have one, but it is too rich for my pocketbook. i would be interested in a 1954 eldorado.(white w/red interior only) if any one knows of one.keep up on the restoration project. don't ever lose site of your goal. it will be worth it in the long run even if it takes years. good luck and i will be looking forward to checking on your progress.

Thanks for your wonderful site, it deserves more awards. My father was a car dealer in the 1950's in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. I remember lots of 1953 62 Series convertibles, but the only Eldorado convertible that I can remember from the period is a 1954 Eldorado. I married a girl from Finland and in 1972 bought a 53 62 Series convertible in Calgary and we had a great time driving it cross country back to Ontario.

Great site! I have been in love with the '53 Cadillac since I was a kid. A good friend of my parents, who I was named after, bought only Cadillacs. So every year when the new ones came out, he'd get one. I would sit behind the wheel for the longest time checking out every detail and, of course, I would pretend it was mine. My father owned (2nd owner) of a 1953 eldorado conv baby blue with white top and matching interior bought orig. by a Saint John New Brunswick Canada industrialist as a bday present for his wife. The car was stolen a few days after purchase and was found in USA and returned to Canada. The wife refused to take it as the thief had left a cig burn in leather on front seat. My dad bought the car and brought it back to new. He sold it in 1956 and it was bought by a policeman (RCMP) in Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Yes a beautiful car, all the best in restoring yours.

Nice car, My '53 is almost exact except for a white/black interior instead of red. My father bought it in '54 from the Cadillac dealer in Sacramento who bought it for his wife...she didn't like it. Dad and I are going to start restoring it. Do you know Ken Gimelli? Can you forward his E-mail or phone number or give him my E-mail address? I want to consult him on the restoration. Your 53 ElDorado is absolutely beautiful and when restored, it will be a treasure. I love many of the Cadillacs from the late 40's to the mid-60's. The three I would most like to own would be a 1951 Caddy convertible, a 55-56 Eldorado convertible, and one like your own...a 53. The 53 is probably the most beautiful of all. Good luck on your restoration, many people will follow your progress.
You are very lucky my friend. I have been searching for one such car and everytime I hear a story like yours I hope I haven't lost my chance. Good luck with the restoration. If worse comes to worse you can always make your own parts or steal some:)

Hang on to this car, my friend. Hopefully you can complete the restoration and enjoy drivin this beautiful car. As for myself, i have a 59 Sedan deVille. Its currently on display in the St Louis car museum, but i'll be getting it out soon.

You were very lucky to find this car, it is rare and one of my favorites. I collect mainly sales literature, thanks, I downloaded your great brochure and photos. I knew someone here in upstate New York who had a white 1953 Eldorado many years ago and often wonder what happened to it, I don't think anyone realized it's value at that time. I wish I could go back then and ask the owner if he wanted to sell it to me, but who knew back then.
