emboss background
If you want to to have a nice emboss
texture with the text or logo, you can run steps 1-5 in tutorial 1, steps 1-3
in tutorial 2 or steps 1-4 in tutorial
3 first. I chose tutorial 3.
1. If didn't do the previously mentioned steps, create a 128*128,
256*256 or 512*512 image with black background
(File\New...). Now, for both versions,
type white text or add your logo and place it and rotate it if you
want to. You can add a gaussian blur for example
(Filter\Blur\Gaussian
Blur...)
2. Now use Filter\Stylize\Emboss with
these settings: Angle=140
Height=1
Amount=50%. You can also use other
settings, like Height=2. After that, you
can invert the image by using
Image\Adjust\Inverse, that won't be shown
here.
3. Now use
Image\Adjust\Hue/Saturation with
Colorize checked. And it should look
something like this (if you hade the settings
Hue=0
Saturation=75
Lightness=-50):

Here I added a new layer, used
Filter\Render\Clouds and had the layer
settings Overlay in the layer palette, I
used Hue/Saturation with the same
settings again, and merged down the layer (Layer\Merge
Down)
