1. Create a new image at 2*2 (yes, you
read right). Fill it with black. Zoom in, and make the top left
pixel a dark grey (35% grey should do it). This is what it should
look like (when enlarged):
2. Select all of the image and choose Edit\Make
Pattern. Close the image. Create an image, this image
will be your sign, so make it as large as you like it. Go to
Edit\Fill... and choose
Pattern (and then OK). The other settings
should be Normal and 100%. This is what it should look like (this
image is compressed, so there are some errors in the
image):
3. Select the black in the image with the Magic Wand, and go to
Selection\Save selection... and name it
whatever you want. Press OK. Create some text or add a logo. It
should be a light color, like yellow or cyan.
4. Render the text layer. Choose
Selection\Load selection... and choose
the selection you created earlier and press OK. Go to
Edit\Cut and your sign is almost
complete. Now you can experiment with the settings, use
multicolored objects etc.
